Malts: Franco Belges Pilsen, Acidulated, Melanoidin
Hops: Strisselspalt, Saaz
Brewed in friendship with Gemut Biergarten: “Mighty Charlemagne sat the throne and the greatest of his knights were twelve. Always they rode in pairs, both a trusted companion; fearsome they were alone, but together, more than the sum of each.”

From the 12 oz can in a snifter. This decent little pils pours a pale clear
straw color with a modest head of white foam that settles to a thin ring.
Nose of light breaded malts, subtle floral hops, and light honey sweet malt.
Flavors lightly surpass the nose with a nice presentation of white breaded malts,
light biscuit note, honey, an lightly spicy floral hops. Mouth feel is light, medium
carbonation, smooth, and finishes faintly dry.

Overall, a solid little brew but more reminiscent of a maibock meets a pils.

Cheers

Picked up in Dayton at good old Belmont Party Supply. I dug the art of the sword and colorful design. Head doesn't last but a nice Saaz kick in the nose makes this promising. The bread note keeps on giving and the texture stays firm enough to stay true to the style. Not an amazing Pilsner, but this one grew on me.

Looks like canned on 5/3/24. Pilsner glass. Note this is a collab between North High and Gemut Biergarten, brewers of fine German lagers, and that it bills itself as an Alsatian Pilsner - so French, not German, but Alsace is pretty German culturally so…graded as a German Pilsner.

A: Pours a slightly hazed pale straw yellow with golden highlights. Two fingers of bright white thick, rocky, uneven head. Sheets of lacing on the glass.

S: sweet Pilsner malt and slight lager yeast. Honey-drizzled untoasted fresh white bread.

T: arrival matches the smell, with a bready sweetness turning malty, then to a slightly floral noble hop note. Finishes off-sweet, with a very mild touch of noble hop bitterness.

M: rich and mouth filling, frothy with moderate carbonation. Slight slickness on the finish.

O: an Alsatian Pilsner should just be called a Munich Helles. This is a failure as a German Pilsner - too hefty, too sweet. But as a Helles, this is spot on. As a Helles, this is up there with the best American examples I’ve had - even better than Gemut’s Helles, which I think is too light. Don’t let my grading fool you, I really liked this beer; it’s just not really what I think of as a Pilsner. Would definitely buy again as an elevated yellow fizzy beer. Graded as a Helles this would be 4.5 for smell, taste, and mouthfeel. Appearance is too light and not clear. My overall rating reflects my overall enjoyment, not style.
