we should have a category here on BA for mexican lager, this is decidedly not a vienna type. its delicious beer, some corn likely in the mash, and its done with lime, not overdone, zesty and natural and reserved enough for this to still taste like a lager first, or at least simultaneously. its bright yellow in the glass, light golden color, clear and high sine, an inch of white head sits easily on top, good looking draft pour. neat mix of smells and flavors in this, not as one dimensional as many of these, even without the lime. the lager yeast has some herbal and citrus nuances of its own, its nicely hopped on the finish with some crisping bitterness and a light orange whisper, and the grain is simple but fresh, cereals and minerals, basic but right, maybe a little yellow corn sweetness as well. the body is super light, the carbonation is expressive, and the lime is natural and clean, adds a nice little corona with lime vibe to the finish, no cheapness here at all though, craft corona or something, they hit the drinkability like that, no clear glass hangover either. i could have done a ton of these, but they had so many cool and intriguing beers on the list at their downtown brewpub that i had to keep trying different stuff. lots of lime lagers out there this summer, but this to me is a half step better than most of them, mostly because the base beer is great. majorly refreshing, nice with spicy food too.
