a pickle beer thats sort of a sour, weird and good, better than a lot of these, but perhaps made with pickle juice and not actually cucumbers and spices, but i still listed it as a field beer, because its not really a fruited sour, and it doesnt quite fit elsewhere, i think pickle beer i think it has to be in that field beer space. anyway, its way outside the box for roadhouse, who makes great beer but doesnt always push boundaries, at least in my experience. golden in color and rather unassuming, fizzy in feel but not real heady in the glass, smells tart and tangy, lemony and lactic, salty and spicy, mouthwatering for sure, weird as can be. i get some vegetal cucumber character i guess, but definite dill, white vinegar, and white wine, along with some brine and minerality, and enough pale malt to keep it beery, intriguing right away, not aggressive enough to be polarizing even though its pickle beer and some people will love it and some will hate it, i think its reserved enough to be drinkable by the pint, a rare compliment for a beer of this nature for me. dill for sure in the flavor, citrus, acid, and salt. maybe things like black pepper and mustard seed are also appreciable, but to me it has like a simple sour with pickle juice added complexion rather than layers of added spice. as it warms trace chili and more sourness come out, i love how much salt is there at the end, really drying and enhancing that actual pickle aspect. good carbonation keeps it moving, it stops short of being too sour, and its pretty fast on the palate, like it doesnt hang around long, which works in its favor. neat beer, creative, id love to know a little more about how it was made and how the pickle element was included, but it could be as simple as just blending in some juice to an easy kettle sour, however they did it, it worked! better than novelty level...
