Pours a two finger khaki head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Deep, clear amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Bready, malty nose and flavor follows with caramel malt and biscuit. $2.25 for a 330ml green bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

I tried this at the Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL. It was a solid offering.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium to dark mahogany in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate garnet red + chestnut brown colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy tan head that quickly reduces to a medium sized patch of thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of dark, nutty, and caramel malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel + molasses sweetness.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of dark malts with a just shy of moderate flavor of toasted, caramel, and nutty malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel + molasses sweetness. No detectible hop presence or bitterness and the beer finishes clean.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Clean finish.

O: Easy to drink and enjoyable. Though the flavors are fairly simple (not complex), this beer is enjoyable and easy to drink.

Poured from a green 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a damn near black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of roasted malts, dark breads. Taste is dark breads, molasses, hints of raisins. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a tasty and enjoyable beer.

On draft at Bavarian Lodge, Lisle IL. Smells of chocolate, dark fruit, and molasses. Tastes of chocolate, dark fruit, molasses, toffee, brown sugar and caramel. Flavors are all well balanced, but the molasses bring out the strongest flavor profile of the beer. Mostly a rich and sweet flavored lager with a hint of bitterness in the finish. Light bodied beer. Moderate level of carbonation. Very drinkable despite the rich sweet flavors found in the lager. Very soft mouthfeel that is quite nice. This is a fantastic beer!

Green bottle, with like 25 mentions on the label that it's IMPORTED.

Pours a pleasant, raisin-colored brown-red with a small wisp of a head.

Smells very malty and fruity. Probably (most likely) past its prime but there's no way for me to tell since the bottle ain't dated. Not a bad smell--these guys tend to hold up decent to age--but nearly hopless. Instead, nodes of toffee, fruit, and light butter dominate.

Tastes like it smells: very sweet and malty, and pleasantly aged. Biscuits and toffee up front, fruit in the middle, and an aggressively sweet, almost frosting-like finish that gets to be a bit too much.

This a decent enough curiosity. I'd love to try it fresh. But stateside, with no guarantee of quality, it's nothing to seek out.

Bottle from Colonial Spirits.
Dark brown in color without much of a head. Molasses and caramel aroma and flavor mostly. Hints of raisin and prune but this feels mostly artificial.

Poured a dark brown color with a small tan head of foam. It smelled of sweet caramel and slightly vegetal. This was not good. Overly sweet. Tasted like a homebrew made from extract.

Deep dark ruby body, creamy light tan head that leaves a ring and streaks of lace. Roasty malt soothed by a bit of stone fruit sweetness on the nose. The flavor follows, with a fair amount of something like grape juice playing off the roasted, caramel-like malt. Body is wonderful; creamy, smooth, almost like a nitro beer without the flatness- there's some restrained but assertive carbonation.
Had the creamy, roasted notes I was hoping for, and then surprised me with a hearty helping of stone fruits to provide some sweetness. Thefruit was a bit much on the flavor, but still appropriate. Really impressed by this one, it's on my list of oddly satisfying brews.

With a dark mahogany color, it is nicely sweet, balanced and malt forward with a dark cereal and molasses malt taste. While it does have a slightly grassy hop taste, it is still balanced and effervescent with good mouthfeel and aftertaste. The low alcohol content makes this beer a very good choice for a malt session beer. This is very similar to the Primator Premium Dark Lager, the Orion Stout from Intergalactic Brewing Company and even the non-alcoholic Malty and Maltstar from Israel.
