L: Pours a cloudy khaki color, minimal head, no lacing.
S: Nose gets burnt sugars, a hint of fruit.
T: Dried fruit and candy. No noticeable bourbon notes.
F: Medium body, zero residual carbonation.
O: I don't normally like "Belgian" beers because of the yeast, this doesn't give me that taste.

Carried from the curb at Beermiscuous. My label also says 18% ABV. Whatever. This BSPA is retired on BA; but has 18 check-ins on Untappd in the last 30 days... a few from the brewery's taproom.
I shouldn't be harsh in what I write;, but rating against the competition is a different principle. The good-to-great BSPA's almost all have a good yeast. That good yeast yields foam, malt yearning to be fruit, lets other spices enrich flavor and gives me a cleansed palate. Devil's Playground doesn't do any of this well -- or even good enough -- because the yeast clearly lacks life.
But, I do want to like Church Street. Because they are best in the Bavarian and English tradition, I don't drink enough of them (or the 150+ micros in Chicagoland who are similar.) Yet, I suggested many years back (after drinking their compatriot Devil's Advocate) that Church Street should focus on the Bavarian tradition. But, they continue to brew the Brits. While I will again taste their leading Belgian (Advocate), I think I was right: Church Street will do best if they brew Bavarian. Prost !
