750mL bottle poured into a snifter
(A)- Pours a murky orange with some good white froth and sticky lacing
(S)- Some dry funk meets dank citrus and earthy notes
(T)- Subtle dry funk meets some dank earthy citrus. Tiny notes of biscuit and wheat
(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. A little funk from the Brett adds another layer to the dank hops
(O)- An interesting take on an IPA. Curious what time would do to it

Served from tap in a tumbler at Firkin.

Lake Effect has been doing some interesting things lately, and that includes this all-Brett IPA. Let's take it for a spin, shall we? It pours a partly-hazy amber-brass topped by a finger of cream-colored foam. The nose immediately strikes my 'strils with a bit of mild Band-Aid-style phenols that somehow seamlessly bleed into an open lemon grove and mild pineapple juice (not unlike a clumsy fade transition from Michael Jackson's "Black or White" video that somehow turns out to be interesting). The taste holds notes of funky vague citrus (mostly leaning toward the lemon side of the spectrum), mild Brett funk, mild honey, and a hint of grass in the finish. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation, a mostly smooth feel, and a drying finish. Overall, this beer mostly works for me. The Brett isn't overpowering and does its job well on the relatively unassuming hops. I can see drinking more of these in the future.

This tastes like a White IPA, with a bit of Bret souring. Has a good nose.

You can drink this any day, a 6 pack would be great. That being said, it isn't a heavy beer which you have to be in the mood for.

In short, I love this beer. Many of the Bret beers I buy I struggle to finish. This tastes great, but will be light on the sour part if that's what you're looking for.

750 ml bottle, with handwritten Batch #180 written on the label. Yet another new big bottle to me from Lake Effect Brewing Co., out of Chicago. Expectations are fairly decent; I have enjoyed much of what I've had from these guys so far. This one describes itself as a "Wild Wheat IPA fermented with 100% brettanomyces and brewed with Hallertau Blanc and Nelson Sauvin hops".

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a murky / cloudy golden orange body with two fingers of bubbly white head. Leaves behind lots of good spotty lacing.

S - The aroma is very unique and pleasant - herbal, juicy, citric, & floral. Peaches, pineapple, white grape, & some wheaty / grainy / herbal / grassy presence. Perhaps a touch yeasty, but nothing that I would immediately describe as bretty.

T - Taste follows the nose - very juicy, floral, herbal & citric. Pineapple, mango, peaches, pears, some earthy yeast, and lightly grainy / grassy. Very fruity & tropical above all else, but still nothing that I would describe as brettanomyces tasting.

M - The feel is smooth, crisp, creamy, and easy-drinking. Fruity & tropical, medium-bodied, with excellent carbonation.

Overall, another nice big bottle from Lake Effect Brewing Co., possibly one of the most memorable beers I've had from these guys yet. Definitely something I would consider having again, and very recommended.
