From a 12 oz. bottle into a Prairie Pirate whiskey glass, this beer pours out with a thick blackness. Very thin ring of brown highlight at the top edge. It forms a thin crown, caramel in color that dissipated to only an outer ring attached to the glass.
The nose brings chocolate with a kiss of oranges; really like an orange water. Some botanical rum notes and an underlying, slight saltiness. Really does smell like some sort of cocktail.
The taste, luckily for me, brings in that silky chocolate with the most presence and the rest acting as accents. As it warms, I do notice more of them though. That tangy, slightly citrus water note; it’s really refreshing and natural tasting. It’s more like a spring water & kiss of orange peel.
The mouthfeel is sticky with slight alcohol sting, but no burn. Only medium bodied, but that stickiness makes it feel like it’s made of more.
Overall, this was solid and well integrated. Not my favorite thing ever, but I think they did good for what they were going for.
