12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 7/17/2019. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy brown bread with great retention, that reduces to a minimal spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Light bits of flavoring floaties. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, marshmallow, vanilla, fudge, brownie batter, spiced rum, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, coffee, molasses, licorice, smoke, oak char, dark fruit, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness. Light increasing rum booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, marshmallow, brownies, and rum barrel notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, marshmallow, vanilla, fudge, brownie batter, spiced rum, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, coffee, molasses, licorice, smoke, oak char, dark fruit, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness. Mild herbal, roast, charred bitterness; and rum/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, marshmallow, vanilla, fudge, brownie batter, spiced rum, toasted oak, biscuit, roasted nuts, dark bread/crust, coconut, coffee, molasses, licorice, smoke, oak char, dark fruit, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, marshmallow, brownies, and rum barrel flavors; with a fantastic roasted bitter/sweet and rum/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying sweetness after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and rum/oak/alcohol spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 14%, and lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged flavored stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, marshmallow, brownies, and rum barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish; fantastic soft feel for the ABV/Rum barrel. Amazing balance between super rich malts, marshmallow/brownie flavorings, and rum barrel presence/integration. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. Not overly boozy/tannic on rum barrels. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding pastry style example as expected.
