15 February 2021 - Beer #238

Price: $17 .99 at Gold Star Beer Counter in Brooklyn, NY

Appearance: 3 - pure black, but the head did not last long. Also, dem floaties. Eww.

Nose: 5 - a gigantic blast of bourbon and nuts. A drop of honey, but the nuts really dominate.

Taste: 4 - extremely tasty. I lose the barrel, and the honey starts to take over.

Mouth: 5 - more sticky than thick. Glides down real smooth.

Overall: 4 - I was hoping for something truly special, but instead I got something really good.

Cheers!

Poured from a bottle (purchased at release, 3/9/20) into a festival taster

Enjoyed my second/last bottle tonight, 21May2021 - more understanding of the coconut floaties so bumping my rating there. Everything else rings true, great stout!

L: deep black brown, minimal head that faded immediately. Good amount of floaties, not my thing. No lacing

S: will revisit as it warms, but first thoughts: rich dark chocolate, bourbon, roasted coffee, slight nutty sweetness. As it's warmed get more coffee

T: same as smell, will revisit as it warms but first thoughts: wow, wow, wow. Rich, decadent chocolate with lots of bourbon barrel flavor. Coffee comes in after the first second, continues through the finish (medium) providing a nice lasting roasted note. Coconut there as well, almonds make for a rounded, rich, sweet character. There's some boozy heat at the start but it meshes very well with the coffee notes toward the finish. After it's warmed, most notable change is the honey roasted character comes through more as well as the coffee

F: low carbonation, medium body - appreciate it's not overly viscous, thick without overdoing it

O: an amazing, rich, decadent stout. Flavors play very well, a lot going on but doesn't come across as muddled. Excited to have another bottle of this to cellar, will revisit in a year
