Pours black with a dark tan head that sticks around a while. The nose has rich milk chocolate, a heavy barrel presence (booze and oak), and a little coconut.
The taste haste that rich milk chocolate up front, and then there’s a nice stone fruit flavor via black cherries, which was a pleasant surprise, and some coconut and a nice little alcohol burn at the very back of the palate. Man is this delicious.
The mouthfeel is a bit on the thin and watery side, which I didn’t expect, but this is overall still a pleasure to drink.

Brew: Prairie Artisan Ales – Prairie Dawgz: Red Velvet Koconut Klimax
Intro: 12 oz. poured into a tulip glass. Shared with a friend.
Appearance: Dark black color, minimal head. But some, maybe ½ inch
Smell: Cocoa, minimal coconut, and of course the bourbon barrel
Taste: .Followed along with the smell. Barrel was upfront. The additives melded together and nothing really stood out. For a title that featured coconut guess I was expecting more coconut out front
Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation and that really helped. Not thin, not chewy/chunky
Drink: The 12 oz bottle disappeared quickly. As it seems with most Prairie stouts, definitely a dessert beer. I wouldn’t see downing more than one in a session
Conclusion: I’m happy to have had the chance to try it. Another solid offering by the Prairie Dawgs. Don’t hesitate if you get the chance.
