On tap at the Prairie taproom today. Tried on tap, but also now out of a 16 ounce "crowler".
The beer pours the expected blackish brown color with light lacing and fair head retention. The beer is somewhat viscous, and has the appearance of a beer that has seen considerable barrel aging. On the nose, this is a very impressive beer, showcasing butter brickle, chocolate, almond cookies, marshmallow cream, vanilla and light bourbon. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this sweet barrel aged stout, though it's not quite as complex on the palate. The sweetness is a bit much as well, though the bourbon helps to counter and balance it. For all that, this is still a delicious, lovely dessert beer. Mouthfeel is fairly full, with a long, soft, very sweet finish. Alcohol is well integrated into the flavor profile, though you can tell it's up there (the abv). So drinkability is pretty good, though it would probably be a mistake to drink a whole lot of this.
Another excellent beer from Prairie. Hopefully this isn't a one-off, and they'll make this again in the future.
