i should be past the point of needing to lament what prairie used to be every time i review one of their beers, so i wont do that. this is new school adjunct slop, but it tastes like its supposed to, one of those wonderfully tart green suckers that come out at halloween time covered in sticky caramel, this is the beer version of that, even fake apple and gross color added, a sip is fun i guess, but any more than that is just kind of nasty, even if they hit the stated goal, how many times have we said that about prairie in recent years? less like a real caramel apple, more like the candy, and unfortunately more blue than green in the glass from the can, murky, thick, and flat too, nasty almost cartoon puke color, but it smells great, why bother with the coloring? maybe its old and it was prettier newer? it sure isnt pretty now. actual caramel sauce, thick and sweet and even a little salty and buttery in aroma, hard green apple candy too, maybe actual apple, sour from the apple part and also from a kettle souring element, although the sweetness of the caramel and apple both are enough to cover it up, a little chemical cheapness, but it hits the mark. the flavor is just as good really, the sweetness is absurd but the sourness works great with it, and i think it does hit like the lollipop. long on the palate despite quickening tartness, apple comes more to the fore, some actual apple element to me through the candy which i like, but its short lived. lots of body here, messy feeling, especially without enough carbonation, not malty in any way at all, and certainly not hoppy. just weird stuff, novelty beer, liquid candy, fun to share a bunch of ways but god help the consumer of multiple cans of this...
