Beyond the Pale Brewing Company

 

Visited on a recent work trip to Ottawa. Had a sample of the Aromatherapy at the bar and bought some Rye Guy IPA and Twins Double IPA to go. All three beers were great. Service was prompt, tap selection was large and varied, and I liked the layout of the retail store and taproom. Bar was also pretty busy for a weekday afternoon. Lots of parking available. Overall, if I had more time I could've easily killed half a day here, as this seems like a stellar brewpub and BTP makes awesome beer. Recommended.

They moved to a bigger location. This one too small for public consumption. I liked their beers then, but years later still producing the same beers so not primary stop.

 

This is a nice little brewpub kinda place in a super nondescript building (or group of them) that is like a strip mall and a loading dock had a baby. There is a shop with coolers full of their current canned beers as well as all the clothes, glasses, etc. that you could want. Passing through the shop there is a tasting room/bar with a bunch of their beers on tap, growler fills, a pinball machine and some tables (there is also seating outside). It is just a cordoned-off corner of their brewery but it is well-placed and doesn't feel like an afterthought. The service was good and very efficient. The beer was tasty. The whole place is just what it should be and needs to be.

 

 

Vibe, As far as vibe goes its very small, a small tasting bar and 5-6 stools, why am I saying it is a 4.5 It had a homey feel and the people really made you feel welcome. I will include more on that in service.

Quality - The beers I tasted were all fantastic and we were lucky enough to be treated to a bottle of pink funk to try. (more in service) the bartender was quick and attentive and one of the owners was there chatting with us.

Service - As I stated before the bartender was very attentive in letting us try anything they had (5 beers canned and 10-12 in half growlers.) One of the owners (Shane) was there talking with us, really cool guy! I was there with a group of IGers and I believe they knew we were coming but it was very nice. Also Shane cracked a bottle of pink funk from their cellar ( really hard to find) to give us all a taste!

Selection - As I stated above there were 15-17 beers. they had everything from hopped up wheat beers to IPA's to Belgian double IPA's to milk stouts!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

My favorite brewer in Ottawa. They always have something unique, on top of the regular brews they offer. I'm a little worried about the move this year, as I've noticed BTP is losing the "community" feel to it. Hopefully they don't lose sight of the fact they are a nano-brewery. Ottawa has enough craft brewers continually pumping out the same stuff. My favorite thing about BTP is their creativity and adventurous brews.

Great little shop close to the Parkdale market. A couple of taps if you wish to have taster with loads of 32/64 ounces growlers. This is worth a stop if you wish to try some of Ottawa best local beers. Parking is easy to find in the street beside the brewery. Note: The brewery is expected to move later this year so check to make sure this store is still open before heading out.

Small operation that was disappointing. Beer was not chilled and served from warm growlers. We did purchase some beer and it was much better once served at the proper temperature. Brew their own beer on location. The tasting room is small with a bar and eight stools. Staff wasn't knowledgeable and not very friendly. Our visit was quick and disappointing. Four beers tasted for no charge

Great nanobrewery, Nice people.
Brewers are often on site to chat and share their apparent love of the craft.

Their beers are really good, varied and sometimes eclectic (in a fun way).

They manage to brew beers that I find not too carbonated, bloating.
Their stronger beers hide their alcool well: Tasty before Boozy.
Their lighter ones still have a lot of taste, nothing watery here.

These guys are not afraid to experiment, to go "Beyond"...
