Pity that I should be the only review on a retired brew. Refreshing and pretty good, considering I think not much about at least half the AIPAs I've had. No short-cuts here. No cheap thrills with heaps of extra bitter hops. Champion dried this one out at only 40 IBU. This seems to me an accomplishment. Overall: balanced and integrated. (No food involved, good thing for this review and reviewer.)
My first from Champion, I went on their website and, frankly, it is less impressive than this ale. They are in perhaps one of America's 50 best college towns, so they probably operate a relatively high standard. But Champion needs to update their site and expand the quality of their mission. They don't sound too much different than the competition in towns that lack a great university.
Since Champion isn't shy about brewing in all three traditions, I will keep an eye out for their Belgians the next time I get near DC.
