Starts impressive, with a healthy beige head and plenty of roasted and bitter dark chocolate notes in the nose. This is rich and balanced and very smooth, although maybe a touch over carbonated. Nice for a brisk evening in the fall like this one.

Bought as part of a mixed 6 pack at Krogers. Poured from a 12 oz can into a pint glass. Dense dark brown color with a frothy Khaki head. Lots of lacing and good retention. A good looking beer!!! Aroma is not all that complex, rich slightly bitter malt with maybe a hint of coffee. Flavor is more of the same. Rich and malty, richer than 5% abv would suggest. Some mild bitterness and a hint of coffee. Mouthfeel is rich and mostly smooth with a touch of bitterness. A good brew!!!!

i believe the can reads 10/10/21; poured early april

pours a dark cola brown body going in, which looks more like coffee black once it's all in the glass. a billowing khaki foam head peaks nice and rocky at about two fingers and holds for about two minutes, leaving a moderate amount of thick sudsy lacing behind as it settles to a rocky thick halo

aroma is sweet chocolate malt, cafe du monde type coffee, tobacco, and light cherry with a citrus type tart on the wings

taste follows that nose pretty closely. the tart ramps up to join the sweet malty notes and cafe du monde/chicory is still obvious.

mouthfeel: mid-level carbonation and medium body that flows smooth and creamy with carbo prickles here and there before finishing slightly dry with a root-tea bittersweet aftertaste

overall:
the chicory and subtle citrus tartness really pump this porter up a few levels, definitely clearing the "average" mark. I'd be able to pick this porter out from a lineup now, which honestly says something with us being in a climate chock-full of coffee porters and chocolate malt bombs. well met!
