Bought this crowler from Beer Drop.
I never knew that a dubbel could be so refreshing in the summer. (Must be the cherries.) But, this is a dubbel by most standards as it is a sweet and malty style. Coal Kriek also was food-friendly; great with a medley of pizzas with the beer-drinkers at the party wishing I had bought two crowlers (actually, one wine-drinker wanted more than a sip.)
While Coal Kriek's Looks are only slightly above the average, Smells say tart-sweet. Tastes give me tart-sweet; balanced nicely. In my mouth, active enough bubbles to cleanse the mouth for another bite of another variety of pizza.
My first from Gravity, one minute on their website tells me they are typical of the Denver-boulder beer culture that is fast becoming one of the world's most diverse and, probably, best. I like how Gravity seems to have slipped into the Belgian tradition so easily and I intend on having more of those offerings; I presume from Beer Drop's every-improving distribution. A Votre Sante'.

L: Pours a dark ruby red with a small white head and no lacing.
S: Sweet cherry and vanilla, some grape, and sweet malt.
T: Sweet cherry, vanilla and some grape, some tartness, and toasted grain. This beer is very very sweet.
F: Medium body and carbonation might be a tad low.
O: An interesting beer but it is very very sweet.

A 750ml bottle
It is a dadk ruby to brown color. Cloudy opaque. Fairly minimal looking carbonation for the style. Just a thin, whispy, tan colored head.
It smells malty with sweet and sour dark fruits like cherries/dates/red grapes. Some Belgian yeast and sugars.
It tastes a little more sweet than sour, but pretty nice balance. Candied cherries and red grape skin gives it an overall plum flavor. Some malty darker grain follows. Slightly crisp up front with a tart finish. Pretty smooth feel for the most part. A lingering browned pie crust taste.

Poured into a tulip a very nice brownish/reddish color, very nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with some nice dark fruit complex (grapes, figs, raisins, plums), really nice cherry note. The taste is pretty nice, malty, yeasty, pretty nice dark fruit complex (grapes, figs, raisins, plums), very nice cherry note, nice sweetness. Medium body, ABV hidden very nicely, a pretty nice complex brew. Nice little tart/dry finish. Overall, this is a very tasty brew. A little different take as well on style.
