Received a 750 ml bottle as part of the Barleywine/Stout BIF#1 on 11-4-23 courtesy of mikexw. i believe this was bottled in 2020; consumed for review 3-8-25.
Beer poured black with a smallish off-white head that dissipated quickly.
Nose is very nice as the cacao and coffee adjuncts are dominating with a touch of vanilla in the background.
Taste is a huge moderately roasted malt base that lets the cacao and coffee dominate even after 5 years. Getting a touch of leather and vanilla from the barrel. Honey sweetness is not overt as the barrel cuts through and balances. Rye sharpness seems to dominate the barrels and comes across a touch disjointed.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.
Overall, definitely a very good beer, so grateful to Big Mike and the opportunity to try this!

19 January 2021 - Beer #222
Price: $23.99 at Good Beer NYC in Manhattan
Appearance: 4 - distinctly brown on the pour, and not thick in the glass. One of the whitest heads I've seen on a stout. Copied/pasted from the last SingleCut review, which makes me nervous.
Nose: 4 - mostly honey. No coffee, maybe mild vanilla and chocolate. No barrel.
Taste: 3 - not even. No barrel. Faint bitterness from old coffee. Mild honey on the finish. Sentence fragments everywhere.
Mouth: 3 - mildly thick, somewhat flat. A tad sticky.
Overall: 3 - quit it, SingleCut. Go back to IPAs.
Cheers!

Pouring a cellar temp 750 ml bottle into my trusty snifter. The beer has been in my cellar for a few months and is a gift from my brother. thank you!
The beer pours a much lighter color than I expected, it is more of a cola brown than a coffee black. ONce it settles in my glass it is much darker, but the pour was surprising.
A creamy beige densely packed head of 1 cm foams up from the pour. this fades to a sturdy edge layer and one large wispy island in the center.
The aroma is rich coffee, dark chocolates and a good dose of bourbon and hints of vanilla. Not really boozy or hot scents. No hops show up at this point either. Nose is impressive and is what it should be for a bit imperial coffee stout.
First sip reveals a smooth silky texture with soft and spacious carbonation. The beer coats my palate and lips with a sweet stickiness during each sip.
Flavor is brown sugar, bourbon and a bit of vanilla up front, this rolls to some dark chocolate and finishes with a bit of a black coffee bite. Boooze also hits here with some black pepper flavor and warming character. No hops anywhere.
This is a big and bold imperial stout and doesnt lack bourbon character from the barrel aging. the coffee comes through with good presence too. I wouldnt age this if you have a bottle, its pretty great right now!

Pours out as a nice deep black color with a thin tan head on top. The aroma is loaded with coffee and barrel notes. The taste has a very nice deep roasted flavor with plenty of coffee and vanilla followed up by spicy bourbon in the finish. The feel of the beer is good, it could've been maybe a little fuller or silky but still solid. Overall it's a really good beer just a bit on the expensive side,
