Drank 4/13/14 @ the Yarchives.
Brown/black hue.
Tan head; thick, frothy lace.
Creamy oats & burnt sugar nose.
Medium thick, creamy mouthfeel.
Creamy (sorry!) oats & burnt sugar battle for supremacy, while a black coffee bitterness swells underneath.
These contrasting flavors are balanced well. Very unique!

Appearance: Slight head of dark tan head on the pour. Sticky lacing left at each level. Below average active carbonation in glass while drinking. Sits black in the glass.
Smell: Chocolate jumps out right away with accents of sweet amber. Slight roasted malt, barley, and vanilla warms up with the beer. The bright molasses adds a lighter side to the aroma as well.
Taste: Cacao, roasted barley, wheat, and toffee hit the palate right away. The chocolate malt and coffee accents pick up in the body. As the chocolate and coffee reach their peak, the molasses sweetness kicks in and rides this brew out. The finish is dry chocolate with lingering sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Roasted dryness mixes well with lighter tones.
Overall: A really solid brew. The chocolate and molasses are strong and mask some of the other tones going on here but this is an interesting brew.
