The Roggenbier style is completely new to me. Basically a German Hefeweizen that has had its wheat in the malt bill replaced with rye. The end result is a bready and spicey like rye character, sweetly balanced with the hefeweizen banana and clove like yeasty character.
The beer appears a darkish amber, with a small, quarter inch, off white head. Small lacing, and not a lot of head retention that you would find with a wheat beer.
The aroma is a combination of sweet and spicy, bready rye, with banana and clove fruity esters. The taste follows the nose more of less completely. Mouthfeel is of medium carbonation and medium bodied.
O: This is an interesting style to me. I would very much like to see a version brewed with rye and wheat, so we can instill that nice, towering head associated with the hefeweizen style.
