2022 vintage, part of that vidl project, some confusion remains on what exactly that is, a separate business or what, but ive had a few of these wild ales now and they are fire. this one is spontaneous and hoppy, and its different than the aged whole cone isovaleric character we usually get in lambic types no matter where they come from, its fresher, more fruity, not aged to me like that, more contemporary type dry hopping, and its real successful with that rather traditional base, which was being called gueuze when it was served to me, must be blended from several vintages, it definitely has that maturity to it. light haze to this blonde brew, short white head from the bottle but very expressive carbonation, well conditioned. i get a lot of oak in the nose, a new american oak thing with vanilla all through it, some serious sourness, white wine and white wine vinegar, meyer lemon and herbal freshness with the hops, orange and white grapefruit and green grape and subtle pear, some green glass funk, definite lambic type wildness which is amazing, the funk on this is killer, lightly cheesy and sweaty but in a good way in this beer. the hops are almost tropical in the flavor, and there is some bitterness from them too, this is more hoppy than is traditional in every way, but behind that unique hoppiness is a really good wild ale, woody and interesting on the ferment, subtle white pepper, raw wheat, lychee fruit, and white currant, piquant and quick but with some body, mouthwatering and almost addicting, the freshness of the hops add a lot, really juicy and compatible, would love to know more about what sounds like an experimental varietal grown near the brewery. ive been very impressed with wicked weed sours for a long time, but their spontaneous beers under this vidl label have been next level even beyond that stuff that put their brewery on the map, so thankful to have been able to drink this one, the heavy handed hops and woody maturity really set it apart. loved it!
