corn forward mexican lager here, like actually sort of tastes like yellow corn, but is also sort of has recognizable pils elements about it, well lagered, light on the palate but flavorful as these go, doesnt warm up incredibly well, but i liked this, its fresh, washes fried food down clean, and hit for me after a long travel day, on tap at the wicked weed brewery location. blonde and clear, a little better than a half inch of white head on it, slow moving bubbles rising to join it, neat tall mugs they serve it in here too. the nose is tighter at first, but it opens as it sits, lightly dusty crackery pils type malt, some modest earthy sweetness from the corn, lightly vegetal, minimal on the hop side, some of that light fruitiness that often comes from mexican lager yeast, but subtle there, simple really, summery, enhanced by my food context, a crabcake sandwich. a little more outwardly malty as the temperature comes up, but this presents as a fast drinker as the style generally does. the flavor is almost surprisingly corn forward, especially at the end, and its more than generic sweetness, its like canned corn, not quite cream corn, and not in the way diacetyl can sometimes show up as corny, like actual corn, in a good way, its a pro not a con in this, strongest near the finish, light botanical element in the finish too, lightly doughy, well proportioned, some refreshment value falling off as it warms up which hurts it some, but overall i like this not being generic in a style that so often is. less from the ferment but a fine job with the lagering technically speaking, adequate carbonation, not as clean maybe as it could be in the finish, but its all flavor baby. always fun to be drinking beer here, and in asheville more generally, so much good beer around, its a mecca!
