clean belgian saison here and a good one, not overly estery on the yeast, and done with new zealand hops, which isnt as common as it should be, with how compatible this style is with what these hops can bring, really drinkable and summery and professionally executed, and a great food beer as well. just a tad more grain color than anticipated, clear for the style, light new penny copper tone to it, high shine, average height white head with defined peaks from the tap at the brewery. aroma of familiar belgian yeast, coriander and orange notes, light anise, white pepper, pears, and white wine, pleasant and not dominant, hops add white grape, apricot, and neat thiol character, light toasted grain personality, some earthy wheat, all fresh and cohesive, not crazy hoppy to my senses, tastefully done. the flavor is like the aroma, balanced, lightly spicy, belgian first, nothing rustic or funky about this, but its still interesting with the slightly fuller grain complexion and also the hops, which add cool fruity nuance to this, no hop bitterness or anything, bright and botanical and all very fresh to me, white wine, stone fruit, cut flowers, orange hard candy, well grounded but estery too, uniquely complex but also a pounder if you like yeast forward beers as much as i do. not really a style i think of when i think wicked weed, clean saison, but its excellent beer overall and it was a fun one to share with my wife. i do think it could handle more of these hops, they dont define it by any means, and its not hoppy saison per se, but what they bring is exciting and more of it would not be out of place. cool recipe, i tend to be dubious of clean saison from the states because they can all be samey, but this is decidedly original.
