Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Beer Nerd 12-oz. tulip
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa, Calif.
Price: $1.67
Purchased: Dec. 8, 2017
Consumed: Dec. 14, 2017
Reviewed as: American Pale Ale
Misc.: Canned on Oct. 31, 2017
Picked this up with five others on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s. Generally hadn’t been impressed with Thorn for the most part, but always looking for new beer to try. Back of the can read, “”Just like San Diego’s independent music scene, this California, California-style pale ale unapologetically stands out. It’s a highly balanced beer with pine and citrus hop flavors coming from a generous late-kettle addition and dry hop.” Online description read, “A sessionable classic American Pale Ale that strikes a balance between its 2-row barley & caramel malts with the bitterness of the super high alpha acid Warrior hop. Late addition of Cascade & an additional Cascade dry hop rounds it out very nicely.”
Poured a gold semi-clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky white uneven head. Lots of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent foamy lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled pine, citrus, wet Cascade, dish soap, lime zest, lemon and grass. From the can also got additions of orange, guava and mango. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste followed the nose, maybe maltier than I thought it would be. Got Cascade for sure up front. Also lemon, rye (Warrior?), iced tea, pine, caramel, citrus zest, dish soap and grass. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Abrupt citrusy finish. (Feel - 3.75)
Pretty solid pale ale overall. Would have it again. (Overall - 3.75)

Poured from 12oz can into Seidel Mug. Canned on June 29th 2017.
L: Clear pale gold with a tight half finger off-white head that has moderate retention.
S: Pretty hoppy aroma for a Pale Ale, still has some grainy malt there too but lots of citrus and floral.
T: Flavor is more balanced yet still significantly hoppy, nice citrus edging out the malts.
F: Light-Medium body, crisp, lingering grainy and hop bitterness.
O: They killed it with this one.
