Type: 12-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. brandy snifter glass
Price: $2.17
From: From: Trader Joe’s in College Area (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Sept. 25, 2020
Consumed: Oct. 2, 2020
Misc.: Canned on Aug. 27, 2020
Grabbed a can of this, a bunch of other stuff and a 6-pack of something else on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s. Looks like they started a hazy IPA series starting in March. The basic description for the series is Each Beer in this series is 100% Cryo-Hopped®; hops separated at low temps into a potent concentrate. This one (for July 2020) featured Ekuanot and Simcoe.
Poured a medium yellow semi-hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy off-white head. Could see just a few bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Perfect spiderweb lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled that Ekuanot right away, including green pepper, herbal, menthol, pine, lime, lemon, dish soap and green apple. Was not getting much Simcoe, maybe a little papaya, pine and black pepper. For sure got Simcoe from the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Taste followed the nose for the most part, although not quite as good to me. Big Ekuanot - lime, lemon, dish soap, green pepper, herbal, menthol, bitter pine, green apple - and lesser Simcoe - black pepper, pine, papaya, grapefruit and onion. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Dry, herbaly finish. (Feel - 3.75)
Very good overall (Overall - 3.75)
