Type: 12-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. brandy snifter glass
Price: $2.17
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa, Calif.
Purchased: Oct. 3, 2020
Consumed: Oct. 5, 2020
Misc.: Canned on Sept. 24, 2020
Grabbed a can of this on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s after picking up a Cobalt the time before, which I gave a 3.87. The basic description for the series is Each Beer in this series is 100% Cryo-Hopped®; hops separated at low temps into a potent concentrate. This one (for October 2020) featured Amarillo and Centennial.
Poured a pale-to-golden semi-hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of off-white frothy head. Could see just a few bubbles creeping up the top of the glass. Excellent spiderweb foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled the two mentioned hops right away, first Amarillo and then Centennial. Specific characteristics included tangerine, orange rind, lime zest, pine, grapefruit, citrus zest, mandarin orange and lemon. Not quite as good out of the can, but similar flavors. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste followed the nose for the most part, maybe not quite as good. Got both Amarillo and Centennial right away. Also tangerine, mandarin orange, lime, pine, grapefruit, orange rind, lemon and citrus zest. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, citrusy finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This was a very good beer. Would have it again for sure. (Overall - 3.75)
