Each IPA in this (Shades of Haze) series is 100% Cryo-Hopped which means the hops are separated at extremely low temperatures into a potent concentrate providing an intense hop flavor and aroma. Our brewers were so excited to play around with the different Cryo-hops that we developed a whole series to allow for their creativity, and beer, to flow freely. Flavors of lemon, orange, and tropical powerhouses, mango and papaya, mingle together along with herbal sage notes to create a bright and juicy IPA.

Type: 12-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Glass: Pure Project 14-oz. Teku glass
Price: $2.17
From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa, Calif.
Purchased: June 14, 2021
Consumed: June 15, 2021
Misc.: Canned on April 21, 2021
Had Rachel pick me up this at Trader Joe’s with some other stuff. First three I tried in the “Shades of Haze” series had been decent in Cobalt (3.87 on Oct. 2, 2020), Jade (3.70 on Oct. 5, 2020) and Slate (4.19 on March 17, 2021). Thorn’s website called this “Each IPA in this series is 100% Cryo-Hopped which means the hops are separated at extremely low temperatures into a potent concentrate providing an intense hop flavor and aroma. Poured a medium-yellow semi-clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky white head. Plenty of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spotty lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled both Ekuanot and Citra right away. Specifically lime, apple, green pepper, herbal, menthol, papaya, lemon and grapefruit. Even better out of the can. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted Ekuanot more than Citra but both were present. Also lime, green pepper, apple, herbal, menthol, papaya, lemon and grapefruit. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Soft-to-average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.00)
A very good beer overall. Glad I picked up a can. (Overall - 3.75)
