Poured from a 500ml swing-top growler that was filled at the brewery the same day, into a US tumbler glass.
A: The beer is a medium brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, some fruit and some hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, brown sugar and some fruit. Then some breadiness comes in from a hearty malt character. The hops presence I mild and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a good beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Slap Happy is an simple amber that we spice up with some rye in the mash. The rye adds some earthy spiciness to the beer and also helps to dry the beer out a bit to let the hops show through. The malted rye is complimented by Mt. Hood and Sterling hops and Crystal hops cut through the spiciness with a little lemony floral aroma and flavor. The end result is a malty beer with an earthy floral hop presence that finishes dry as a bone with a light hop bitterness.
Filled the growler at the brewery on Saturday. Pours a nice creamy fluffy bubbly 1 finger head that fades at a med pace at first then slows quite a bit, nice thick head sticks around for a while and adds nice soapy lacing, over a darker than expected mahogany like ruby amber hazy colored beer.
Nose brings a nice combination of hops, malts, and a big spicy rye component, some caramel like candy malts, little toasty as well, and that big spicy earthy slight fruity rye. Those quickly make way for the hops, a nice hop profile with a bit of a spicy component, mildly earthy and a bit floral, then it gives into a little citrusy note and grassy hops. I also get a mild toffee note and little hop resin.
Taste brings malts out front again, that spicy rye right up which blends nicely with the sweeter malts, some crystal malt and caramel flavors, hint of toffee like candy again but barely, little a nice toasty character, and that definite spicy rye flavor that even brings a little earthy tannin bitterness. Then back into the hops, which are a little lighter than the aroma brought, mostly a mildly earthy spicy hop profile, touches of grassy floral notes. The spicy earthy grassy hop profile seems to blend nicely with the spicy earthy rye as they seem to present each other nicely while still staying just mildly bitter, with the big semi sweet malty balance in the background. As it goes, a little of toffee and nutty notes come through, and hint of a citrus lemon rind touch. Finish dries nicely but leaves a hint of a sticky feel, a mild fruity component as the rye seems to turn a little fruity, bit more citrus and spicy hop note, pretty clean finish otherwise though.
Mouth is med bod, decent carb, although I would have liked a little more but probably a growler mishap as the sample I had at the brewery was carbonated nicely.
Overall very nice, this is a tasty beer for sure. Great balance between all the flavors, the mildly sweet caramel toasty malts, mild bitter hops, and light spicy rye character. I do like how the rye and hops play off each other and the malts keep either from pushing too far in any direction. This is def one of the ones I would keep on as a regular guys!
