Outstanding
Notes: The big, bold, obnoxious big brother of both the Stinger IPA and Middle Child IIPA. Like Stinger and Middle Child, a bit of honey is added to this beer, although the massive hop additions of bright and cirtusy American hops and tropical New Zealand hops are the focus of this beer. While there is no shortage of hops added during all phases of the boil, huge quantities of hops are used to dry hop the beer… not once, but twice. While Stung is definitely bitter it is loaded with citrus, pine, earthy, and tropical hops flavors and a big malty component serves to balance out the alcohol content (and hops) of this beer and creates a surprisingly smooth beer for its 10.5%.

On-tap 10/17/2015 at Bog Iron Brewery, in Norton, MA served in a stange glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains honey, citrus, floral hops and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a burst of flora hops bitterness that is quickly followed by sweet flavors of honey, caramel and citrus. The malt character is hearty and provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down dangerously easy, not too filling, well-disguised strong kick, very good representation of style, this is a very solid 2IPA to drink for a long time.

Growler filled a couple days ago. Finally a DIPA from these guys.

Pours a surprisingly nice rich creamy thick 1 finger head, off-white fades fairly slowly, with nice lacing, hazy darker maroon candy orange-red colored beer, stream of bubbles rising up in the center like a tornado twisting off in the distance in the haze of a storm.

Nose brings some nice hops, a juicy fruit, generic fruit, with a little citrus, very light background almost tropical almost papaya guava like note, candied dried fruits like orange peel and apricot, with some sweet toasty malts underneath, hint of caramel and candy like malt, milf fluffy malt, and faint fruity esters with a hint of booze. Hint of citrus pith,

Taste starts with malts, candy caramel malts, some toffee, and even a touch of espresso bean interestingly, actually more like nutty coffee toffee candy crunch thing. Then hops kick in, fair to heavier bitterness, into generic fruity flavors again, dried candied fruit mostly, dried apricots, oranges, and even touch dried candied pineapple. Also a very mild background tropical note, but more generic tropical than any specific fruit, with some citrus notes. Hops turn a bit spicy and chewy, and fairly heavy, as it attempts to dry on the finish. Back end brings some mild fruity esters with a warming booze washing over as it dries. Finish is a bit sticky despite the drying attempt, more nutty toffee candy and caramel lingering, fair to heavier bitterness, spicy chewy hop with a little citrus and fruity notes.

Mouth is fuller bod, touch creamy and fluffy, nice carb esp for a growler, and bits of warming booze here and there.

Overall pretty nice, a bit heavy on the malts overall IMO, but that's not unusual for a big DIPA, but a bit too nutty toffee candy like, hops are pretty nice. The first time I had this the malts were a little too dominant and hops were a little too muted, but second/third filling I've had they seem to come through a bit more, and a bit more bitter earthy spicy taste too. Malts are still a bit on the caramel toffee side for a typical nice DIPA, but still quite tasty.
