Poured from 1.5 liter bottle into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: much like the Infost honey kvass, this bottle is extremely heavily carbonated -- there must be some serious bottle fermentation going on here. Head is huge and fizzy but subsides quite quickly. Body is a medium-brown hue with plenty of haziness. Pretty run of the mill for the style, although the massive foam is pretty spectacular.

Smell: quite sweet and a little bit bready. Interestingly, this kvass also has a little bit of the honey aroma that was present in the honey-style kvass. Not bad, but a bit on the sweet side.

Taste: again, quite sweet, even for the style. There's a tiny hint of raisin in with the light breadiness and hint of honey, which is what I like to look for in the style. This particular kvass seems a little lacking to me, though; it's not bad, it just doesn't have a whole lot of character.

Mouthfeel: very light body, but a massive and entertaining carbonation. Seriously, the layer of foam on the kvass left in the bottle never actually subsides ... several minutes opened and the kvass is still out-gassing at a furious pace. Bizarre, but fun.

Overall: an interesting take on the style. I'm not sure what "barrel style" means, but this particular brew is a little on the bland side. If you like to try every kvass out there, this may be worth your while ... but it's probably not a good place to start. That said, it is still a refreshing and invigorating drink.
