a really cool drink here, done in collaboration with stem ciders, its a beer and cider hybrid, mixed fermentation, very interesting stuff, not sure i have ever had anything like it. i thought it would be straight cider, glad its as beery as it is! its also time i shed my opinion that these guys arent any good, that was formed years ago after a lousy experience the week after opened. i have liked almost everything i have had since then, but carry that opinion around for some reason. here is to dropping that. in any event, this is cool stuff, pale yellowy looking, hazy but with more head than i have ever seen on a cider before, looks more like a saison, just a super pale color. the aroma is interesting, bretty and tart, funky and weird, apple forward for sure, a little cider vinegar and crisp green apple tang, along with still a little bit of fruity sweetness and perhaps some raw wheat. the flavor is about the same, i am amazed how yeast forward it is, so funky and interesting, equal tang from apples and bacteria, very neat. i also like how well the fruit is fermented down, this isnt half as sugary or even cidery as i thought it would be. i also like the amount of grain is has, gives it body and beer character that i didnt expect. cool funk, very late summer/early fall feeling to me, and probably one that will continue to condition up well in the bottle for awhile. huge thanks to my neighbor for sharing this one over the fence, way ahead of expectations. its time i finally start believing in these guys, this stuff is fantastic and truly one of a kind! i could have happily had the whole bottle to myself...
