473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 5 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a deep copper-brown colour with near-crystal clarity; rising to the surface is an inch of loose, soapy, buff-tinted head that fizzles within two minutes. A thin collar and a patch of film remain on the surface, with some stringy lace deposition after each sip - looks fine so far. Rich, inviting aroma of roasted malts, caramelized sugars, toasted bread and dark fruits, with hints of coffee, chestnut and hazelnut.
It's a tasty brown ale with a roasty profile. Caramel, chocolate, toasted grains & bready malts at the forefront, becoming sweeter and nuttier by mid-sip. Bitter cocoa, herbal hops, roasted malts & earthy chestnut flavours at the finish, concluding with caramel, coffee and an off-dry ashiness fading into a faintly nutty aftertaste. Medium in body, with low carbonation that weakly nudges the tongue, giving some baseline activity to this brew's smooth, slightly slick mouthfeel. Finishing one can is easy enough, but I'll pass on seconds.
Final Grade: 3.86, a B+. The chestnuts in R'Oasted Chestnut Brown Ale aren't prominent, but they are discernible - mostly on the back end, and particularly the aftertaste, at least in my case. Quite roasty for a brown ale - and, to be fair, Oast House warns you ahead of time, what with its name and all - but it does make for something more akin to a stout than a brown. Maybe they'd have been better off adding some roasted barley and just calling this a stout? Nevertheless, I'd like to drink this beer again, and will make sure to try it fresh if at all possible.

Poured a 473ml can into a pint glass. A two finger bubbly tan head on a very dark clear amber brown. Good head retention. Lots of fine lacing.
Coffee and chocolate in the nose. Earthy. The taste follows the nose. Sweet. Coffee first followed by chocolate. Some earthy notes. Is that the chestnuts? They are not really evident otherwise. Extremely low hop bitterness.
Medium body and carbonation. Overall an excellent American Brown Ale. True to the style and well worth a try.
