March 31st, 2015 - Oggi's California Gold is the lightest beer available on tap today. Colored like a light lager, it borderlines on neon yellow with a quenching looking clarity, and a clean aroma decorated with just a touch of white grape. The flavor is clean, drinkable and dry, though the mouthfeel has a touch of heft. Tasty and crisp, it's a good start to my Oggi's line of tasters.

On tap at Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Company in Santa Clarita, CA.
Pours a clear gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and some slight grass and hay aromas. Taste is much the same with a slight sweetness. There is a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it's fairly basic and straightforward.

On tap at Oggi's Carmel Mountain.
A: The beer is...gold, yellow gold. The head is a small white cap. The body is transparent.
S: Corn and apple with biscuity malt. Lightly spicy in the nose. Maybe a touch of DMS. There's not much going on.
T: Cracker and biscuit with a light bitterness. There's a little corn in the flavor, and faint apple notes.
M: Light in body with moderate carbonation.
Overall: A run of the mill cream ale.

On tap at one of the Oggi's locations in San Diego, CA on 6/30/11.
A - Clear pale piss yellow liquid with a finger's worth of bubbly white head that dissipated to a patchy veil and left behind sparse lacing.
S - Light grassy hops and sweet corn-based malt as well as lightly toasted grains and a mild lemony zing comprise the fairly subtle nose of California Gold.
T - Sweet malt with plenty of caramel and corn up front give way to mild floral and grassy notes. Finishes with a light grainy, bready malt character.
M - Light bodied with mild carbonation and a fairly crisp, clean mouthfeel overall. Finishes with mild hop bitterness and residual sweetness on the palate.
D - Better'n Bud and Coors, at least. Overall, this is a very non-offensive, light and easy-to-drink cream ale.

A: The beer pours a clear golden straw color with a fizzy white head and minimal retention.
S: Starts off innocently enough with some pale malts and a nice sweetness. A hint of floral hops and a sweet fruitiness to the beer. Then, there comes a strongly vegetal aroma that just ruins the beer. It's almost like broccoli.
T: The vegetable character is there from the start. Bit time grass and vegetable juice flavors. A mild bitterness, green apple, straw, and some moderate malt/grain sweetness.
M: Light in body with a moderate level of carbonation.
O: I would pass on this should we cross paths again.
