22 oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- A dark ruby red/brown with a small tan head.

S- Dark fruits, sweet cherries, some oak, caramel malts, earthy.

T- Dark fruits, sweet cherries, oak, earthy, caramel malts, some alcohol, finish has a slight cough medicine/anise quality that seems out of place.

M- Smooth, medium to full body.

O- Smells great but the finish is a little off putting. Still a solid beer, just could be more balanced.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown without much head. Very sweet (more than I was expecting) and gives almost a sensation of thickness - I would almost say "notes of cough syrup" (not a bad thing!). Caramelly taste and it disguises the alcohol well, but each sip is still nearly overwhelming. I wouldn't want to drink this with food as it's basically a dessert beer, but one worth your time.

Bottle: Poured a dark burgundy color ale with a large off-white foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing notes. Aroma of dry caramelized malt notes with light toffee notes is quite pleasant. Taste is a mix of dry caramelized malt notes with some toffee and light dry fruits notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. Well done and enjoyable even though I prefer the style with more peats notes and a sweeter finish.
