For Lovers Only is an homage to our friends down the road, Southern Culture on the Skids, who have been sharing our love for all things homespun and southern fried for over 30 years.

For lovers only Imperial Stout is as big as Mary's wighat, as chewy as Rick's guitar work, and as bored as Dave's bangin'! Aged in light to medium French oak, this hearty stout will rev your engine with a taste as big as backseat love!

I shared a couple bottles of this stout with co-workers at the brewery. It poured an opaque black with ecru head that did not leave much lace. The scent had an odd earthy appeal. The taste was more bitter than expected. The oak flavoring was definitely present. Other stout stables such as roast and earth wasn't really present. The Mouthfeel was medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's ok certainly worth a shot.

I wanted this to be so much better than it was. It's ok. Not as thick or tasty as an Imperial Stout should be. Smelled a bit medeciney. Pick up their Magella and an Old Rasputin or a Ten Fidy for an Imperial Stout.

Pours a very very deep chocolate brown. Head is minimal. Aroma is of strong alcohol and some sweet malts. Taste is malty, very sweet malt with a touch of coffee. This beer is only 9.50 abv but drinks like a 12%+ beer, lots of burn. Overall, not that bad, but the alcohol masks a lot of the malty goodness and/or balance that would have been present.....*Note........As this beer warms, a nice chocolate taste comes out and is quite pleasant......

Bottle:
Pours very dark with a decent head on a decently vigorous pour. Head is medium tan and soapy large bubbled, minimal lacing.

Nose is dark roasted, almost smokey notes, bitter coffee, some ginger, sweet potato, and just a hint if woodiness.

Taste actually seems a little root vege/spice, unsweetened cola/root beer. This might be influenced by an unexpected carbonation punch. The beer is a bit more viscous than I'd expect. The end taste does bring the wood taste, which seems to reduce sweetness even more. This is a fairly dry-bitter beer; almost like a cross of an dry Irish stout and an dry saison.

Initially I was thinking this was a straight 3.75. The feel didn't quite work for me, and maybe could've used a little more malt sweetness. I will also say this bottle seemed different than a tasting I had a couple weeks ago, but that was just a tasting.

The vanilla comes through pretty strong in this, which I like. Much less boozy than you might expect from 9.5%. Only things that let me down a bit were the thinner mouthfeel and slight over-carbonation. Overall, a very good beer that unfortunately prices itself against all sorts of heavy hitting competition.
