I am far from an experienced beer reviewer, but really wanted to weigh in on this great discovery — a local Amber Ale from the Blue Ridge Parkway area of central Virginia. I got it on a whim from a local Wal-Mart (really!) and it was sold in a 4-pack of 16 oz. cans. The color is a beautiful coppery gold, and there was a small head of foam that didn’t stick around too long. It was lightly carbonated, which was good because the taste was delightful. (Sorry that I lack the vocabulary…) It did not feel heavy or coat my tongue at all, and I loved the fact that it was just the tiniest bit sweet. The 5.4% alcohol level meant that I didn’t feel woozy at the end. From what I can discern about American Amber / Red Ales, this is a fine example. I love the fact that it’s from a small scale brewer, and I will definitely try to buy some more.
