Had this on tap at the brewery last weekend. This is the first beer from Parkway to be barrel-aged and for their first attempt they executed very well! However it was not carbonated since they wanted it to have that 'firkin' feel to it but I still enjoyed it!
A - A very dark, deep black with no head whatsoever

S - Bourbon, wood, chocolate, coffee, vanilla and toffee

T - Outstanding! With no carbonation, it is super smooth and the bourbon isn't overwhelming. What I was smelling is what I was tasting and the warmer the beer got the better it became!

M - Super smooth and velvety with no harshness from the bourbon, and the flavor lingered for a bit.

O - Overall this beer is excellent, yet very simply done. I am curious to try it carbonated to see what difference that makes but for the first in their barrel-aged beers I am impressed!

Pours a lifeless black with a few large coffee foam brown bubbles. No head, no lacing.
Whiskey is strong on the nose. Lots of spice, wood, and caramel with the base beer only creeping up in the background with some modest roast and chocolate.
Palate is a bit more balanced between beer and barrel. Up front there is strong, spicy oak notes and herbal rye whiskey but the mid palate picks up with caramel malt, chocolate, and roast from the beer. Finish is very strong tannic wood.
The beer is almost flat, which really makes the beer less enjoyable. It feels too heavy, lifeless, and oily. More carbonation would really make the aromas jump and flavors come out a bit more.
Despite the criticisms, this was a nice first attempt at barrel ageing from this very young brewery. Hopefully the next batch spends a little less time in barrel and gets a bit more carbonation.
