Very weird at first. Herbal and flowery, it really grew on me and I turned out liking it.

a little too big for a saison really. although the fact that its aged in old tom gin barrels is pretty darn cool. the alcohol always seems to show though on saisons this strong, and it does here too, but there is enough body in this one to hold it up. the juniper from the gin really comes though in the nose, and elevates the hops to a piney place. the wood goes well with the wheat malt base too, and although gin is uncommon in beer, its a great synergy this time. the alcohol has a little sting to it, but there is not tannins from the malt, and there is no harshness to any of it, it seems appropriate. not much funk or fruity esters from the yeast, which is the most disappointing part. it seems only partly a saison, more of a belgian golden or something, especially with a little sweetness in it. overall though a cool beer, but i think i prefer their hoppy stuff to this. more old tom gin barrel aging please though! what a cool feature to an otherwise decent beer.
