22 oz. bottle, with no apparent batch number or bottled on date present. The new 'double chocolate porter' from Flesk Brewing, from the neighboring village of Lombard, Illinois. This is about as local as I can get. More epically awesome bottle art designed by a friend. Acquired from the local Ardmore Station Liquors. Thanks homies.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - It pours a deep dark cola; just a shade away from opaque in the glass with one finger of frothy bubbly khaki tan head. Moderate scattered strands of lacing. Standard appearance. Looks good for what it is.
S - The aroma isn't entirely what I'd expected: more musty and earthy than imagined. Powdery baking cocoa, earth, must, mild alcohol fumes, wood, cold coffee, & some caramelized malt presence. A bit of a swampy mineral water sort of aroma creeps out of there, also. Local residential Villa Park / Lombard water (lol?).
T - Taste is a bit milkier & creamier than the nose implies - milk chocolate, dark chocolate, powdery baking cocoa, notes of vanilla / caramel / toffee make an appearance, roasty coffee bean bitterness. Not quite as chocolatey as expected, but it hits it's mark. Mild sugary sweetness on the finish. Mild alcohol warmth.
M - The feel is smooth & creamy. Roasty, bitter, & dry on the finish. Leans toward the fuller side of medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation. A sipper, to be sure.
Overall, an alright attempt at a 'double chocolate porter' from Flesk, but it was nothing extraordinary. Would definitely recommend to my fellow local beer enthusiasts, though.
