Worse, more bitter version of the funkwerks saison. Not an awful beer to be inferior to though and decent overall

sometimes it seems like the all red beer thing has painted them into a corner a little bit, like it has made innovation forced instead of natural for new beers, and they have gotten pretty weird lately. its nice to have a pretty classic style with a light amber color here and just call it good, they need to get back to a bit more of that i reckon, not sure the likes of lavender and pistachio beers are sustainable, but thats another conversation. this one is pretty simple, a little fuller bodied and richer on the grain side than a lot of saison types, but i dont think it employes red wheat, maybe just pale wheat and a crystal malt, its tough saying because the yeast is so estery and intense, it really takes over. its belgian more than anything else, but seems to me like it was fermented just way too hot, and its all estery to the max, kind of unflattering, especially when this warms up a bit. it also benefits little by being so strong, i can taste a little of the alcohol, and in a beer like this, drinkability would be helpful. this could be tamed down and be a much better beer, but these guys like to be weird, so here we have a one and done estery red saison, to each their own i suppose...
