Five years since I had my first from Horse Thief Hollow and it was a lager that I rated as average.
Annexation Ale is well above my average (3.25) and I'm glad that 10 years since inception that their menu seems quite sophisticated for pub food. (Maybe a better choice of name would help...IMHO)
But I still give HTH good Overall Hugs for their community service.
Annexation is a good AIPA. It was refreshing cold and, as it warmed, it showed complexity. The citrus and pine hops played well with the malts and never overpowered the sweet. Check. Medium to full in my mouth.

On tap at the brewery. Burnt orange colored ale with a frothy ivory head. Muted aroma with citrus and pine. Pungent bitterness explodes pine and zesty orange and grapefruit with a heft of caramel malt and grain for a backbone that provides some sweetness to counter the bitterness. Sticky medium body coats the palate with bitter hop oils, lively carbonation, bitter and dry west coast style IPA style finish with pine, zest, and bit of spicy hop lingering. Good drinking IPA here.

Very well done IPA from this small brewery on the south side of Chicago. I will come back for this one.

Pours a cloudy, golden color. 1/2 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of citrus hops, floral hops, pine, yeast, slight sweet malt, and slight alcohol. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of pine, citrus hops, hint of floral hops, slight alcohol, slight sweet malt, and a hint of yeast. Overall, good appearance, decent aroma, decent body, and good blend.
