Can from Brewer's Haven. Pretty big and bold for a session IPA. Hazy golden pour with small frothy head, fades to ring. Aroma is equal parts bready and hoppy. Hops move up to the front in the taste, Big, bitter and tingly, hangs around for a while. I would never have guessed a session based on the big flavors here.

This has been out for a while and for what ever reason, I am now, nearly 6 months later, giving this one a go. Picked up a 22oz bomber at Baron's Market in PL and poured it into a Modern Times oversized tulip glass.

Pours that classic wheat beer look - a hazed slightly orange/straw-like hue, fatty white head, great retention, with thick coats of lace from start to finish. Aroma is sweet and malty with intensely aromatic tropical fruit hop goodness - just like the look, this one has a classic wheat beer aroma with a good dose of dry hopping. Flavor follows suit - a lot of tropical fruit, the wheat sweetens it up a bit, gives it a good malt back (uncharacteristic of a lot of "Session IPAs") and adds a slightly tart finish. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, mellow carbonation, finishes dry and crisp.

Overall, such a good Hoppy Wheat - wish they gave it more credit than just being a Session IPA, although that's what sells! Seriously though......................

Pours a hazy honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus juice, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with tea, citrus fruit, and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has a fairly low ABV but still has really solid citrus forward hop characteristics all around.

Serving type: bottle.

Pours unfiltered gold with a smallish finger high white head. Decent retention and loose lacing.

Initial pour stirs up a big pungent passion fruit and pineapple aroma that is strongest a couple inches above the glass. It settles in quickly to a more stock lemony wheat, grass and pine hop influence that is much more subdued and stable.

Bready with a touch of grain husks and lemony wheat. Pine and warm yellow citrus with a finishing hay and grassy flavor. Bitterness is average for an IPA but it lingers far through the finish of the drink coupled with a grainy bite and pine/grass clippings.

This beer is unfiltered and it really does give it major heft. The carbonation is subdued somewhat, bitterness leads into a nice drying feel.

Balanced 'session' IPA, the unfiltered body breaks that descriptor though. The wheat in this beer is really a non factor, there is very little lemon zip, rather more grassy and dull pine hops carry the burden. I wish the tropical nose on this beer didn't fade with time.

Pours a chill-hazed amber color in the tall goblet. Foam is white and fairly persistent. Body is thin, as typical for a session IPA, but there is more malty substance than would be expected in a lower-alcohol brew. Flowery aroma with a citrus fragrance.

This starts with a pleasant malty warmth. Bitter aftertaste. Distinct grapefruit taste with plenty of acidity. Overall this is crisp and flavorful, though more bitter than needed except for the certified IPA categorization. Sudsy and appealing mouthfeel.

Somebody needs to blind-taste a line-up of a bunch of these style of brews. This seems like one of the better ones. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bine & Vine in San Diego for $6.49.
