they call it a white stout, but i listed it as a blonde ale, i am having a hard time calling these beer stouts, but yet they keep coming out it seems. i was actually stoked to try this one because it has macadamia nuts in it, an uncommon ingredient that definitely had me curious. it also uses coffee and white chocolate. it smells a little bitter from the coffee and a little acidic too, almost acrid somehow, not as rich and sort of luxurious as it looks and sounds like it should be, and i get a honey sweetness and even a salted element going on here, kind of confusing in the nose and not as appetizing as i hoped it would be. the taste is oddly tart, like almost sour or something, oily from the macadamia nuts but other than that i cant really appreciate them much. the coffee tastes green to me, the white chocolate is too sweet, and the whole thing is just kind of disjointed and sloppy, below what i have come to expect from belching beaver for sure, and not at all what i was wanting out of this. its almost like the nuts somehow make the fermentation weird, i dont really know, but there is an astringency in this that breaks down the richness and depth it seems like its trying to establish. it was work to get through a pint of this, really disappointing. anyone else have this experience with this one or was it just me? just a bad keg? i hope so.
