heres a sentence i never thought i would concoct, this is the best churro beer ive ever had. weird to type, but true, and frankly odd how many of these are out there nowadays, seems like such an odd thing to inspire a beer, but there are dozens, anyway, this puts them all to shame in my experience, and i was floored by it on a number of levels, i think easily the best belching beaver beer ive ever had, maybe not even close, its just epic, could not be better than it is, totally successful, and honestly an epic approximation of churros, that part blows my mind! the little short cans this comes in rule, such a neat packaging choice, and the beer is pretty even without any real head, slick and thick and darn near midnight black, viscous and leggy, yum. aroma is nice, but it doesnt give away how epic this tastes, warm cinnamon, deep dark high end like luxury belgian chocolate to me, syrup but the good stuff, all melty and awesome, and the cinnamon sugar thing specifically, but its so so so much more intense in the flavor. great base stout here is obviously key, and the barrel is not too much, adds a neat smoothing effect and some vanilla, but the flavor just still kind of comes out of nowhere even with this nice aroma. its straight up churro rolled in the thick cyrstal cinnamon sugar, long flavor climax, basically the whole second half of this, lots of chocolate but the cinnamon sugar specifically is what leaps out of the glass, warming and wonderful on the tongue, and with the oak it somehow almost seems fried too, just like the dessert, i cant even believe its authenticity to that, smooth and palate coating, its got an insane viscosity to it, brown sugar too, milk chocolate purity, but its not all that sweet really, and somehow even the alcohol isnt too much, its really beautiful stuff, perfect in some ways, oddly drinkable and addicting, and neat that they have this at 13% abv for their thirteenth anniversary! smart. depth of flavor is killer and this is highly flavored but so good and so real that it works. nice oak and whiskey as it warms. this is as good as gets, really, any dessert stout, not just churro. do not sleep on this, a beer of the year candidate for me, its on that level! had no idea these guys had this in them, wow, just wow. massive thanks to my friend and colleague from bringing this back from his travels, its pure magic.
