January 30th, 2016 - Old Dirty Bastard seems to be one of Belching Beaver's best sellers. At least, it always seems to be popular when I go to the tasting room in North Park and here it's name at the order counter. I can see some of the attraction in its potency and power. The aroma starts strong with that barrel aged wood barrel smell, and some appealing sweetness. And the flavor is strong to match, though not gross or overextended like barrel aged stouts that get pushed to the market prematurely. In fact, the body on the ODB is a little light, and disappears quickly in the short aftertaste. The name might be rankling but this is a good beer to finish the evening with.

Bottle number 3192 or 8192? Looks a little thin no head, smells great! lots of whisky on the nose. Tastes very boozey and whiskey forward but feels light and watery. A little too sweet. Overall Not bad at all, very much enjoyed.

22oz bottle $18.99. Typical pitch black appearance, more of a head than I suspected. Aroma is booze, whiskey barrel, nt bad. Flavor is a little sweeter than I'd like but tasty. Whiskey barrel, chocolate, goes down fast. Tasty but not sure I would purchase again. One thing that this beer really has going for it is that it doesn't feel thin at all. Seems like a lot of barrel aged beers that are around 10% feel thin, this was good.

Belching Beaver's Ol' Dirty Barrel (ODB), Rye barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout. 10.5% ABV.
A: Black in the glass, with honey brown in the dimple. Just a bit of brown head, which quickly fades. Light sheeting no lacing.
S: Interesting smell as soon as the bottle is opened. Dark toffee, char, and anise up front. Light oak. Lots of fig. Light rye bread and chocolate cake.
T/MF: Rye bread and rich chocolate cake are more dominant on the palate, with some slight anise and char. Dark toffee. A moderate amount of fig.
This is a very pleasant surprise. The rye barrels were an excellent match to the darker Russian Imperial style.
Poured from a 22 oz. bottle, into a Belgian tulip glass.
