Initial rating @ Triptych on draft @ Festivus event. It was my third pour of a barrel aged beer that day.

12oz bottle with light brown almost cinnamon colored wax. Pressure cap removed and poured into a Triptych Teku glass.
Appearance: black bodied beer. Medium brown colored head that drops down to nothing as far as any head being left. At the end of the pour, it looked like a protein glob entered into my beer glass. Also this beer has significant sediment noted at the bottom of the bottle.
Smell: Cinnamon rolls, chocolate, bourbon barrel notes, earthy pepper notes.
Taste: This beer opens up with big chocolate, earthy peppers having a pleasant heat, and just the right amount of cinnamon. The peppers carry the perfect amount of heat here and put a nice Kentucky Hug right into your chest. Barrel notes seem to be bringing some vanilla sweetness into the mix. Everything is balanced very well here between barrel and adjuncts.
Mouthfeel: Typical Triptych barrel program texture/mouthfeel. Old school stout thickness no pastry thickness here. Drinks right at the listed abv. Very smooth for a barrel aged beer.
Overall: Full review done at home with a bottle serving on a fresh palette. Having this beer on draft after a few other Triptych barrel aged beers @ Festivus definitely didn't allow me to get a full idea of what Xoco was all about. Or perhaps out of the bottle is the better experience. Another Triptych Barrel Program win!
