473ml can served cold into a pint glass. Review from notes.

Appearance- mildly hazy, rich golden coloured with one plus finger of white head and streaky lacing.

Smell- some general graininess with a distinct cucumber accent. Given cucumber doesn’t smell that strong to have it in place is strange but in a good way.

Taste - continues with a general grainy body, some caramel sweetness followed up by bitterness and quite a bit of cucumber flavour which is quite refreshing.

Mouthfeel- medium light bodied and carbonated reasonably lightly. Easy to drink and quite refreshing.

Overall- a better beer than expected when I heard cucumber Kolsch. Distinctly cucumber flavoured and aromatically cucumber without missing the point of a Kolsch in the first place. Definitely worth a tipple.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jul 23 2020 and served slightly chilled.

Pours bright golden-yellow with some very fine sediment fogging up its complexion, but only barely. Situated atop is one finger of soapy, foamy white head that recedes at a steady pace, coating the glass evenly with lace in its wake; a bubbly collar of froth is eventually left behind a few minutes later. Looking at that glass might make any lager lover thirsty, but the nose would be another story entirely - there's lots of cucumber and honeydew melon, with hints of mint, graininess and doughy sweetness. Smells a bit like a salad.

I wasn't sure if I'd like this one, but it's actually pretty tasty and fairly well-balanced - at least, the underlying kölsch and the cucumber are, with the mint being more of a very subtle background fixture. Cucumber dominates up front, with hints of grainy, crackery pale malt and honeydew melon shortly thereafter; finishes with cucumber skin and an off-dry aftertaste. Light in body, with zippy carbonation that prickles the palate and remains assertive well into the session, lending a very crisp mouthfeel that suits the theme nicely. However, after a few sips, I found that the 'vegetal' note of cuke lingered more than I'd prefer, limiting its overall drinkability IMO.

Final Grade: 3.68, a passable B grade. Radical Road's Cucumber Mint Kölsch won't appeal to all BAs equally - cucumbers are not everyone's cup of tea, particularly in the context of libation. I mean, it's not all that sessionable, and if you genuinely don't like cucumber then I really wouldn't recommend this to you... but if you're curious, open-minded and a bit intrigued by the sounds of it, CMK is absolutely worth a fair shake. I'll pick it up again, but only when I'm specifically in the mood for a cucumber beer.

There are some beers you just don’t like. This is one. Although it pours a nice looking gold colour with a nice head, the smell and taste do nothing for me. All I taste is cucumber and not mint. Sorry this is just not for me

Clear rich gold under a moderate head, no lacing. Rather quiet nose, a touch of beeriness, plenty enough cucumber, no mint present. Not as hoppy or juicy as you'd expect out of a kolsch. Actually surprisingly dry in character and kinda heavy as it's a kolsch, so that diminishes the cuke and mint some. Drinkable, but not really memorable.

Look: The beer's body is pale gold and opaque. It produces a white one-finger head that doesn't persist.

Smell: The presence of hops and malts is very low on the nose. This means there is no fruitiness either.

Taste: Nice take on a traditional German Kölsch thanks to the addition of cucumber and mint. The beer has a soft and fresh flavour thanks to the notes of cucumber. As for the mint, its taste persists all the way to the finish. There is no noticeable residual sweetness or even maltiness at all. Moreover, the hop's flavour is low.

Feel: The beer is easy-drinking. It is meant for spring and summer. It doesn't have a dry finish because at 5%, this is considered a session beer. The finish is crisp and doesn't linger on the tongue or the throat. There is also a little bit of carbonation. There is also no astringency.

Overall: Although some purists might find this beer distant from the pure recipe of a Kolsch, others will welcome this beer as a fresh experiment from Canada. I loved it and will drink it again.
