clever beer here, a nice strong bock base, undergone an extended ageing process in bourbon barrels. the smoke is not at all too much here, its rather mild, or better yet well integrated into the complex european malt base to the point where it does not stand out to be as much as the whiskey barrels do. the beer is kind of flat from the tap, but its got a nice earthy brown color to it and pushes out this incredible aroma of raisin and fig and light campfire smoke, along with a sweet malty base, and lots of bourbon vanilla notes. the flavor has some sweetness, the lager aspect of this is lost a bit to the barrel, but the beer is great overall, and not too sweet by the finish. plenty of wet wood and sweet bourbon, there is some bitterness with the smoke and an additional woodiness, extremely autumnal too me, like i should be splitting wood and building a fire to heat the house or something while i drink this one. its just a little thin for all the flavor, and there isnt much carbonation, but its got great complexity and is a rather ambitious beer. on tap at the zipline beer hall. i dug it.
