Pours a murky pink-burgundy with a finger of khaki head. Aroma is toffee, caramel, molasses and syrup with toasted, nutted and caramel malts. Rum provides a little spiciness to it, with a kiss of char. Flavor profile is toffee, caramel, molasses, and burnt sugar with toasted, nutted, caramel and light roasted malts. Rum is present, adding a smooch of heat and complexity. Char contradicts the sweetness well. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a velvety, fizziness that is refreshing. Overall, a hearty barleywine that drinks easy despite the high ABV. Very well put together between the base barleywine and rum barrel addition.
Served in a 12oz snifter from a 750mL bottle.

A - Hazy chestnut brown color with thick, soapy toffee colored lacing and some floaties.
S - Roasted toffee, rum, brown sugar, molasses, and some oak tannin.
T - Toasted toffee, rum, brown sugar, oak, some warming on the way down and alcohol effervescence permeates up to the sinuses. Finishes with light bitterness, roasted toffee, and lingering rum booziness.
M - Heavy, full body, and silky smooth with a soft texture.
O - Not a fan of rum barrel aged beers but this one works.
