Poured on-tap at Trophy and served in a stemmed pint, the beer is an oil black, with a light, low, tan head that clings to the glass. Nose of heavy roast, bitter chocolate, roast coffee, and subtle cream. Flavors are very roast forward, with heavy coffee bitterness, cocoa nib, and earthy notes. Robust and smooth throughout, with a bitter and roasted aftertaste. The description at the brewery has vanilla in it, but it seems lost amidst the heavier, more bitter characteristics. Dry, very bitter finish. The cocoa and coffee notes dominate throughout.
