Check Your Head is another delicious New England-style IPA inspired by the lyrics of the Beastie Boys. Dry hopped with Galaxy, Centennial, and Idaho 7, this beer hits you in the face with bright, tropical fruit notes up front, lots of mango and citrus, and a slightly resinous bitterness on the finish.

A: Pours a lightly hazy medium golden honey in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly along the edges of the glass and moderate medium golden yellow + amber + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense sudsy foamy light beige head that slowly reduces to a medium sized patch of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Slightly less than significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of juicy citrus/grapefruit, tropical/papaya, tropical/mango, tropical/pineapple, tropical/passionfruit, and floral hops over the top of light to moderate aromas of caramel + biscuit malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of caramel + biscuit malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of juicy citrus/grapefruit, tropical/papaya, tropical/mango, tropical/pineapple, tropical/passionfruit, and floral hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades away fairly quickly leaving lingering tropical hop flavors.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Initially slightly crisp with a hint of softness/fluffiness mid-body and a hint of dryness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable with a pleasant hop profile.

10/02/18 on bottom of can. Poured into a Duvel tulip.

A: mostly clear slight amber with 1-finger off-white head with average retention and thin band of lacing.

S: stellar aroma profile of floral, pineapple, guava, passion fruit, pine, and grapefruit, intensities in about that order

T: bitterness is low but I would say this beer straddles the line between NEIPA and WCIPA and does it well. Hops are layered beautifully with bright tropical fruit - passion fruit, guava, pineapple - with accents of grapefruit, lemongrass, and pine. Pale maltiness provides a light grainy sweetness. Floral and pineapple esters. Delicious flavor.

M: medium body with low carbonation and soft finish.

O: not sure of the Beastie Boys connection, but no doubt a suitable homage — a superb, flavorful IPA.
